Description:

According to the greatest cognac connoisseurs, Ferrand Cognac eaux-de-vie are produced in a style that is rare in the world of spirits today.

The Premier Cru of Cognac

The 75 hectares of vines on the Angeac terroir that are the hallmark of the Ferrand Cognac style are located in the heart of the Grande Champagne region, the Premier Cru of Cognac, defined by an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée.
This terroir, which connoisseurs call the ‘Golden Triangle’ near Cognac, is particularly renowned. The Campanian landscape is hilly, and the chalky soil gives the grapes the acidity they need to produce excellent wines that go on to become great cognacs.

Distillation - Our Know-How

At the logis d'Angeac, the delicate distillation process is carefully monitored: Ferrand Cognac is distilled slowly, in small stills with a limited capacity of 25 hectolitres, which helps to concentrate the flavours.
The special onion shape of the top of the still helps to extract the aromas from the wine lees. Unfiltered, these lees are particularly rich in fruit aromas, helping to give body and bouquet to the eau-de-vie.

Maturation - The fruit of patience
The young eau-de-vie is collected at the end of the still and aged in small Limousin oak casks stored in the cellars of the Angeac-Champagne estate in the Charente. The north-facing barrels are cool all year round, and the traditional clay floor maintains a stable level of humidity.

During this ageing phase, Ferrand Cognac passes through several different types of cask in order to avoid excessive bitterness linked to an overly pronounced tannic or woody character.

The properties of each barrel contribute to the alchemy of exchanges between the alcohol, the air and the wood.

The art of blending
The quality and finesse of Ferrand Cognac are not only the result of maturation. Our eaux-de-vie also derive their character from the subtle and precise art of blending.
At Logis d'Angeac, we have been cellar masters for five generations, each one inheriting the experience and know-how of blending cognacs. It takes years of practice to choose the eaux-de-vie that will harmonise to ensure their continued excellence.
The result is exceptional cognacs that respect the tradition and character of Grande Champagne.
